We left Buena Vista this morning heading to the Great Sand Dunes. We stopped at a quaint little cafe in Hooper, Colorado and had a great breakfast. We headed to the Dunes about 11:00 and started hiking up them about 11:30. When I say Sand Dunes I mean really big mountains of sand. Everybody thought that I would wimp out early, so I was determined to prove them wrong. about 1/4 of the way to the top I thought I that I had made a bad decision to attempt to climb these massive sand dunes. My husband said he would give me 100.00 if I made it to the top. I had to keep going with a prize of 100.00 waiting at he top. The air was really thin and I had trouble breathing, but I was determined to keep going. I got almost to the top and I got really sick and all I could think about was the fact that I had to go back down. I sat down and just wanted to stop, but my sweet husband came down and helped me make it to the top. When I got there a sand storm came and it was blowing so hard I could not see. The sand felt like tiny knives on my legs. My husband tried to shelter me and my oldest daughter from the sand. My aunt and one of my twins were a little away from us and I could hear her crying. I was really scared and my daughter started praying and the sand stopped blowing so we immediately headed down the dunes. It was quite and experience to say the least. I am so proud that I did it now and I am going to enjoy spending my hundred dollars. I don't think that I will ever want to climb the Great Sand Dunes again.
